Cyclists to be barred from footpaths next to cycling paths
15 Aug 2024|392 views
The LTA has announced that footpaths located adjacent to dedicated cycling paths will now be converted into pedestrian-only paths.
This means that bicycles and non-motorised Personal Mobility Devices will no longer be allowed on these pedestrian-only paths. The LTA states that it will give cyclists and non-motorised PMD users a grace period that will end come 1 July 2025 before it begins enforcement action.
These pedestrian-only paths will be demarcated with new markings and logos. Personal Mobility Aid users are allowed to use the pedestrian-only paths together with pedestrians, but at a speed limit of not more than 6km/h.
The authority adds that Singapore now has over 600km of cycling paths and connectors, and it is planning to expand this to 1,300km by 2030. It further states that it will continue to educate path users on the roles and encourage safe path sharing behaviours through educational campaigns comprising various online and offline channels.
