LTA to give two new ride-hail operators provisional licences
26 Dec 2024|75 views
LTA has recently completed its evaluation of point-to-point (P2P) transport operators' licence renewals and applications. This means that existing licensees will have their respective licences renewed, with two new ride-hail operators (Geo Lah Pte Ltd and Trans-cab Services Pte Ltd) to be awarded one-year provisional licences.
The licensing conditions have also been updated to incorporate new regulatory requirements as part of Phase One of its P2P industry structure and regulatory framework review. All awarded P2P licences will commence from 1 January 2025, and licensees must comply with the conditions of their licence and meet LTA's safety standards.
As part of LTA's updates to licensing conditions, ride-hail operators must ensure that passengers have the option to indicate if specific vehicle accommodations are required, such as having a child seat or the accommodation of a folded wheelchair. Passengers must also be notified if a matched vehicle cannot accommodate such needs to allow them a grace period to cancel and rebook. Similarly, drivers will also be able to cancel a booking without incurring a penalty if said passengers fail to indicate their specific needs at the point of booking.
In addition, operators will also be required to display a standardised set of trip information to drivers in order to improve the transparency of trip requests, allowing drivers to easily compare trips offered across various platforms, as well as to facilitate multi-homing (for drivers to use differing platforms).
LTA has announced that it is currently working on Phase Two of the review of the P2P industry structure, with a projected update set for March 2025.
