K9K Fellas: The ultimate experts in all French cars

Workshops specialising in Japanese cars, Korean cars, or German cars are arguably dime-a-dozen in Singapore, leaving their owners with plenty of big-name options to turn to.
Up till recently, however, you probably couldn't say the same for French makes - even though they still make up quite a sizeable proportion of the cars plying our roads. Look around and it shouldn't be too difficult to spot a Renault lying around in your carpark, or a Peugeot creeping past you in the daily rush-hour jam.
Thankfully for these drivers, the recent arrival of K9K Fellas, a new workshop on the block, is promising to shake the space up. In fact, K9K Fellas is so confident of its expertise in French cars that it's making a huge bet: That it will be the only name that owners will need to know when the need to service their cars arise.
K9K: What's in a name?
To the unknowing driver, 'K9K Fellas' may sound like a random mishmash of alphabets (and a single number), but dig just a little bit beneath the surface and its significance will become clear.
As a workshop dedicated to French cars, so too is the name 'K9K Fellas' inspired by a special engine family that has become one of the cornerstones for Renault in recent memory. 'K9K' refers to the group of turbocharged inline-four engines that you'll find under the hood of relatively popular models on our roads such as the Renault Grand Scenic, Renault Megane, and Renault Fluence.
The qualities that the K9K engine boasts - efficiency, versatility and a good amount of punch despite being a relatively small unit - are perhaps what you'll see mirrored delightfully in the team at K9K Fellas too.
And while it's undeniable that the heart of the team burns most passionately for the Renault brand, it also promises to dedicate utmost care to other French brands - including the likes of Citroen and Peugeot - too.
Fresh outfit, experienced hands
While K9K Fellas was officially only founded earlier in July this year, the seeds of the company were already being planted more than a decade back.
Ivan, the affable head of K9K Fellas, estimates that he has spent a good 14 years thus far getting to know French cars - nine of which he spent working for one of Singapore's most reputable authorised dealers. With countless hours spent reaching into their bonnets and towards their hoisted-up undercarriages, he has also grown to more intimately understand some of their eccentricities.
As Ivan explains to us, it would be incorrect to paint all European cars with the same brush; there are certain mechanical parts, as well as bits of software that remain quite specific to French brands.
In tandem, only a team that is well-versed in the workings of French cars can claim to provide one-stop solutions to customers - whether it's the regular servicing appointment that needs to be locked down, or whether it's an unidentified mechanical issue that requires urgent fixing.
Armed with the best tools - and partners - for the job
You'll also want only quality parts for your French car - and K9K Fellas promises to deliver strongly on this front too.
Specifically, the team notes that it works closely with TotalEnergies, the principal company for ELF engine oils - which you might know as the officially-endorsed supplier for Renault, as well as for many other models from French brands.
Because the team at K9K Fellas boasts more than a decade of specialised experience, it has also managed to assemble strategic connections, which not only guarantee access to said parts, but also help ensure that they are procured at competitive prices.
The result? Customers here can benefit from these cost benefits too, and look forward to reasonable and enticing rates when sending their cars in.
Speaking of this, the space that greets a customer when he or she drives up to K9K Fellas' first unit, located on Level 2 of the Polaris building in Woodlands, is a bright, airy and welcoming unit equipped with the latest of tools to help the team do its job.
Depending on the situation, six to eight cars can be housed here at any one time - giving the team a commendable level of capacity to efficiently attend to the needs of multiple customers at once.
Value-added, all-encompassing services
The services offered by K9K Fellas are also notable for their breadth, covering not just general tasks such as routine servicing and vehicle diagnosis, but also more specific ones such as tyre-patching and repair.
As an additional value-add to its customers, K9K Fellas also has a separate unit in Polaris, located on the sixth-floor, specialising in spray-painting. Here, customers are given the chance to either restore their cars to full chromatic glory - or reimagine them as customisable blank canvases, on which their dream colours can be brought to life.
The team's strict commitment to quality products remains; it relies solely on Nippon paint products. This sixth-floor unit is likewise decked out with the necessary equipment to ensure tasks are completed with near-perfection.
Extensive LED strips flood the outer area with copious levels of light so that cars can be properly illuminated and inspected before they return to their owners, while a full-size paint booth can be found further in.
Run by a separate three-man team, careful workmanship is the quality that is prided above all by K9K Fellas at its spray-painting unit. Even so, the value of efficiency remains constant: The team states that a full paint paintwork respray can be completed within five days, while a normal paintwork spray can be done in just three.
The king of French cars
At this juncture, it doesn't feel like a stretch to say that K9K Fellas has already carved out a strong and clear niche for itself. When asked, Ivan states that he is confident enough now that his team has the capability and capacity to solve its customers' issues "without them worrying or hopping to other workshops for [alternative] solutions or second opinions".
Despite this, however, the company doesn't seem on resting on its laurels just yet.
Ivan is clear that he expects all of his employees to constantly expand their knowledge and deepen their mechanical expertise, so that the team's ability to service its customers is consistently reinforced.
When we ask him what his goals for the next five to 10 years are like, his reply is unsurprisingly ambitious, too.
"We want to equip ourselves further in terms of technical knowledge to be the King of French cars - this will be our branding", he declares.
K9K Fellas is located at 101 Woodlands Ave 12, #02-16 Polaris @, Singapore 737719, and can be visited between 9:00am to 6:00pm from Monday to Friday, and between 9:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday.
