LTA announces service adjustments for Bukit Panjang LRT
05 Nov 2024|124 views
LTA has announced that train services on the Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT) line will end one hour earlier at 10:30pm every Thursday to Sunday, from 14 November 2024 to 31 October 2025 (except for public holidays, where normal train services resume).
This is to facilitate the upgrading of the BPLRT signalling system and the testing of the new Light Rail Vehicles (LRV) on the BPLRT line.
Since 2022, LTA has carried out progressive works to upgrade the system to a new Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system, allowing for better control of train speeds and smoother rides.
Intensive testing to integrate the system across the entire BPLRT network is needed. This can only be done during engineering hours, with each testing period exceeding the hours available on a typical night. The new LRVs will also require testing as they progressively become available over the next year.
During this period, commuters can use existing bus services serving Bukit Panjang and/or Choa Chu Kang after 10:30pm, and LTA has said it will adjust service levels where required to meet commuter demand.
LTA expects to complete the full BPLRT line upgrade by the end of 2026 and will provide timely updates on any future service adjustments.
