LTA to conduct investigations on East-West Line disruption
03 Oct 2024|135 views
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has commenced a thorough investigation into the disruption of train services on the East-West Line between the Jurong East and Buona Vista stations from 25 to 30 September 2024.
LTA will conduct its investigations across a few areas, such as the main cause of the axle box failure, which would include a forensic study into the nature of said failure and identify any other potential factors that contributed to the incident.
LTA will also examine the fault detection and incident handling procedures to determine if the correct actions were taken. Its investigation will review the current procedures in place and present measures to improve fault detection, minimise service disruptions, and prevent rail damage.
Lastly, LTA will review the recovery and mitigation efforts to determine the timeliness of the responses taken by the operator, which includes speed of deployment and connecting bus services, effectiveness of announcements on the disruption, clarity of guidance to commuters on alternative route options, and crowd management.
To support its investigations, LTA will appoint an Expert Advisory Panel (EAP) to review the results of the investigation and advise on technical matters.
The panel will be chaired by experts, both local and overseas, with extensive expertise in fields such as rail operations and maintenance, rail system engineering, and mechanical engineering.
LTA plans to conclude its thorough investigation in a few months, after which it will release its findings to the public.
