Caterham has announced that its new EV sports coupe prototype, Project V, will be fitted with immersion-cooled battery packs developed by Xing Mobility Inc. The car was first unveiled with a world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K. in July 2023, and later at the Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan in January 2024.
Sporting all the hallmarks of the Caterham DNA, the EV sports coupe is, according to the brand, Lightweight, simple, and fun to drive. With mass production and commercialisation in mind, Caterham has begun developing a prototype, collaborating with Tokyo R&D and Yamaha Motor, with the goal of completion by 2025.
Having announced the use of an e-Axle developed by Yamaha Motor in October 2024, progress has been made via the decision to use Xing Mobility's Immersio Cell-to-Pack immersion-cooled battery pack, which utilises immersion-cooling technology, in which the cells are immersed in a dielectric liquid to increase heat dissipation while ensuring a greater level of safety.
Caterham, owned by Japanese automotive group VT Holdings, has stated that the next public appearance of Project V will take place in January 2025, when it makes its return to the Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan.
