Caterham relocates to new global HQ

Caterham has opened a new 5,016sqm factory thanks to fresh investment from its new owner, VT Holdings.

The new plant is located in Dartford, Kent, U.K., in a 3.6Ha industrial park development called Dartford X, said to be in close proximity to Caterham's existing factory, which has enabled the retention of its workforce responsible for hand assembling its cars.

The new state-of-the-art building will be home to Caterham's production, engineering, motorsport and commercial teams, and opens after a nine-month fit out that has seen it getting new paint booths, an engine shop, a parts warehouse, as well as 33 individual bays where each car builder is responsible for the complete build of a Seven. Caterham states that the additional floor space and layout will enable it to operate in a more streamlined and efficient manner and will see its production capacity increased by 50%, to 750 units annually.

The firm has opened factory tours to enthusiasts and plans to offer a range of events and vehicle handovers at the new factory.
