At SITCE 2024, which ran from 6 November 2024 to 8 November 2024, Hitachi Rails and SMRT announced the completion of the Phase One Milestone of their Next-Generation Green Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) project.
The project, which came into fruition in 2023, supports SMRT's goal to attain net zero carbon footprint by 2050.
It attained an 8% in energy savings for automatic trains across the North-South and East-West lines (NSEWL), with annual savings of over 15 million kWh, equivalent to the electricity consumption of about 3,000 households annually. This marks a significant milestone in the efforts of both firms to enhance sustainable urban transportation.
The Green CBTC technology uses advanced data analytics capabilities within the SelTracTM signalling system to optimise energy usage, allowing operators to achieve energy savings and contribute to environmental objectives.
The SelTracTM CBTC was deployed on the North-South Line and East-West Line in 2017 and 2018 respectively and is responsible for the automatic control of the trains' traction such as acceleration, braking, and coasting.
