Toyota has unveiled the all-new Urban Cruiser, a compact battery electric SUV developed from the Urban SUV Concept.
Its introduction marks another step in the brand's wider multi-path strategy to offer customers a broad choice of electrified drivetrain technologies across Europe.
By 2026, Toyota will have 15 zero-emission vehicles in its range, including six battery electric vehicles using a dedicated platform. By expanding its battery electric lineup, this contributes to the brand's goal of 100% CO2 reduction by 2035 and Toyota Motor Europe's goal of full carbon neutrality by 2040.
Developed on the "Urban Tech" theme, its "hammerhead" front end is a key element, alongside powerfully rendered front and rear bumpers and the rear light arrangement. Measurement-wise, the Urban Cruiser is 4,285mm long, 1,800mm wide, 1,640mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,700mm housing 18-inch or 19-inch diameter alloys according to model grade. A wide range of exterior colours will include bi-tone options with a black roof.
In its interior, thanks to a sliding rear seat system, the couple distance between front and rear passengers can be adjusted for added passenger comfort or load space. A low, horizontal instrument panel combines with a high-set seating position offering better views for occupants. Upholstery and trims combine black and dark grey, while the ambient lighting offers 12 different colours.
The Urban Cruiser will be constructed on a new BEV platform and will be offered with two battery packs and the option of front or all-wheel drive. A 49kWh and 61kWh battery will be available exclusively in the FWD version, offering 106kW (142bhp) and 128kW (172bhp) respectively. The AWD version will sport a 61kWh battery offering 135kW (181bhp) and an additional 48kW (64bhp) motor to the rear axle.
