ABS Bus brings the future forward with its lineup of electric models

With over 12,000 vehicles sold, ABS Bus has made a name for itself in Singapore with its diverse range of commercial vehicles to suit the needs of many companies. One of the most significant brands it carries is Golden Dragon, which is well-known for its bus models.
Founded in 2007, ABS Bus not only offers buses, but numerous commercial vans, too. Be it for the delivery of goods or the ferrying of people, there's always a model to cater to a company's requirements.
The move towards sustainability has resulted in more firms looking away from diesel-powered vehicles to electric ones. Apart from zero tailpipe emissions, electric vans are also quieter and offer smoother performance. This means quieter surroundings and less stress for the drivers.
Lower operating costs
Electric vehicles bring another advantage: Lower operating costs compared to diesel models. Diesel fuel used to cost a lot less than petrol, but today, it's much closer to the price of petrol, retailing between $2.35 and $2.37 per litre, whereas 92 RON ranges from $2.67 to $2.71 per litre.
EV charging, on the other hand, is $0.55 per kWh. Charging an electric van enough to get 100km of range costs around $10.29. Assuming a daily average of 150km, a company would only need to spend around $15.42 to charge the electric van.
In comparison, if a diesel van has a fuel economy of 18km/L while covering 150km daily, it would cost the company $19.60 a day to operate.
Plus, under the Early Turnover Scheme (ETS), firms benefit from a discounted Prevailing Quota Premium (PQP) for the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) when they replace their diesel goods vehicle with a more environmentally friendly model.
Zippy school ferry
The rattle and clatter of diesel engines that we remember as kids while riding the school bus will soon be replaced by the soothing hum of electric motors. That's what ABS Bus offers with the Golden Dragon 11-seater EV Minibus.
The van's layout can be configured in other ways, too. For instance, apart from ferrying passengers, it can also be outfitted as an ambulance.
The EV Minibus is equipped with a 50.23kWh lithium-ion battery, which gives it a driving range of 250km. And with a 1,980mm height, it'll be able to access most multi-storey carparks, too.
"Electrified" goods
For firms in need of goods transport, there's the EV ABS Van. It has a cargo volume of 6,500 litres, which means anything from boxes to furniture can be accommodated.
The ABS Van offers plenty of performance, too, with its electric motor delivering 107bhp (80kW) and a healthy 270Nm of torque. Since the torque is available instantly, the van moves off easily even when heavily loaded.
Powering the Van is a 50.23kWh lithium-ion battery that offers a maximum range of 230km, which is more than sufficient for daily operations.
Staying frosty
Aimed at firms that need refrigerated transport, on the other hand, is the EV ABS Fridge. It's essentially the ABS Van that's outfitted with a refrigerated compartment.
The compartment's interior temperature is controlled by an external thermostat, and if needed, can be set to up to -20 degrees Celsius.
Like the ABS Van, the ABS Fridge is powered by a 50.23kWh battery that gives it a range of 230km. There's plenty of capacity, too, thanks to the 1,500kg payload.
Future forward
By expanding its electric commercial vehicle offerings just as the adoption of EVs is becoming more widespread, ABS Bus is effectively future-proofing its operations.
Indeed, the company has cited increased interest from its customers for electric vans and electric 10-footer lorries. It even has plans to bring in an electric 40-seater bus.
ABS Bus doesn't just sell vehicles either. It offers financing, insurance and maintenance services as well. And as the country moves toward a more sustainable future, ABS Bus will eventually cater not just to corporate customers, but private ones as well.
