Volkswagen Group has announced that it has delivered 6.52 million vehicles worldwide after three quarters, down 2.8% from the previous year (6.72 million).
The value, which also counts models delivered by Volkswagen Group-owned brands like Audi and Skoda, experienced a rise in deliveries in the North and South American markets, which was offset by a decline in Western Europe and China.
The group believes, however, that many attractive new models across all its brands will strengthen its market position worldwide. In addition, a better cost base - especially in Germany - is important to the group's success going forward in this environment.
Despite a decline in Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) deliveries in Europe, it remains the market leader in the region with a market share of around 19%.
With increased BEV deliveries in China (+27%) and a decrease in the U.S.A (-26%), its BEV share of around 8% at the end of September is around the same as its previous year's level despite a 4.7% decline in worldwide BEV deliveries (down 506,500 from 531,500).
However, its BEV order intake in Western Europe doubled by the end of September, with its order bank currently standing at around 170,000 vehicles.
Demand for vehicles with modern second-generation plug-in hybrid drives (PHEV) and purely electric ranges of up to 143km is also increasing, with 192,000 worldwide PHEV deliveries signifying an increase of around 9% compared to the same period last year.
