Smart #3 launched in Singapore as new showroom opens doors

If ever your car-browsing jaunts take you to the recently-renovated Mercedes-Benz Centre, head on up to Level 3, and you'll be greeted by a gleaming-new trio of cars that don't actually bear the Three-Pointed Star - but the word 'smart' - on their bonnets.
After embarking on a road trip of roadshows around the island, and temporarily occupying a space at Cycle & Carriage Singapore's Pandan Gardens location, the Smart brand has finally settled into its permanent new home.
The grand opening of the new Smart showroom on Level 3 of the Mercedes-Benz Centre on Tuesday morning (10 September 2024) was doubly special for it also marked the official launch of the second model in the brand's renewed lineup: The Smart #3.
With its unique 'shop-within-a-shop' format, the location of the Smart showroom may seem a little befuddling at first to those less in the know.
Still, understanding the brand's historical (and persisting) roots makes things immediately clearer. Given that Mercedes-Benz was, and still is deeply involved in the Smart brand, the latter's showroom within the Mercedes-Benz Centre now makes its lineage and history even more apparent to consumers.
On a material level, step into Smart's open-concept, circular-shaped showroom and one will find a minimalist and light-flooded space that remains true to the brand's premium corporate identity.
Surrounding a central area that can ostensibly house three cars are zen-inducing wooden walls that display paintwork and rim options on one side, as well as official merchandise on the other.
Speaking of housing cars, drivers in Singapore now have a widened spread of flavours from the brand to choose from - thanks (as mentioned earlier) to the fact that the Smart #3 has now officially arrived here.
Positioned as the more dynamic twin to the #1, the #3 is the first coupe-crossover to be released by Smart, and represents "an even sportier interpretation" of the firm's 'Sensual Producty' design philosophy.
In more layman terms, what this means is that the #3 is clearly the sibling to the #1, even if it bears its own recognisable visual identity. Designed once more by the Mercedes-Benz Global Design Team, the coupe-crossover is marked out by its curved, full-length LED strips up front and on the rear, as well as its smooth body lines.
Despite utilising the same Geely Group-built platform as the #1, the #3 does set itself apart with a number of unique touches.
For starters, the car is lower, wider, and longer - and has a longer wheelbase of 2,785mm too (an increase of 35mm over the one on the #1), providing better legroom for rear passengers. In fact, Smart says that space in the rear is more akin to that on a mid-sized luxury saloon than on a compact SUV.
The #3 also boasts a larger 370-litre boot, which can be expanded to 1,160 litres with the second row of seats folded down.
Likewise, the coupe-crossover's interior should be familiar to those already acquainted with the #1. Within the cocoon-like, dual-cockpit front row, a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch infotainment screen take centrestage, with the latter even coming with a new speaking cheetah as the #3's virtual assistant.
Unique touches here, however, comprise circular air-conditioning vents up front (rather than the oblong-shaped ones on the #1), and a 'permanently open', tinted panoramic glass roof.
The #3 also follows in the footsteps of its smaller sibling with its arrival on our shores in two different variants.
Your entry point to the range, the #3 Pro+, rides on 19-inch wheels, and is propelled by a single motor that sends 268bhp and 343Nm to the rear wheels. (Check out our first drive of the car here!)
While these power figures are exactly the same as those on the #1 Pro+, the #3 Pro+ remains true to its claim as the sportier twin, and completes the century sprint in just 5.8 seconds. Smart also states that even in this single-motor setup, the #3 Pro+ already gets the slightly beefed up suspension found on the #1 Brabus for better driving dynamics.
But again, those who want even steeper performance will be better served by the #3 Brabus, which is marked out by its larger 20-inch wheels, sportier accents (including red brake callipers) and generous serving of Brabus badges all over.
Here, dual motors send 422bhp and 543Nm of torque to the car's front and rear axles, allowing it to zip from 0 to 100km/h in a supercar-rivalling 3.7 seconds. (Again, this is quicker than the #1 Brabus' 3.9 seconds).
On the inside, the #3 Brabus gets a snazzier interior too, replete with red seat belts, an Alcantara-lined sports steering wheel, and a premium Beats surround sound system.
Despite their varying appetites for performance, both the #3 Pro+ and #3 Brabus promise to be practical machines to live with. The two variants are powered by the same 66kWh battery, giving them commendable WLTP-rated ranges of 435km and 415km respectively on a full charge. Said battery also supports DC charging at up to 150kW, with which its state-of-charge can go from 10 to 80% in under 30 minutes.
Smart is additionally highlighting the #3's safety credentials, with the car having been awarded the full 5-Star rating in the Euro NCAP tests in 2023. As standard, the #3 is also kitted with Smart Pilot Assist - the brand's own in-house developed suite of safety nannies - which offers 18 intelligent assistance features encompassing a range of active safety technologies.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Wilfrid Foo, Managing Director of Cycle & Carriage Singapore, expressed his excitement at seeing the new space open its doors, stating, "While it has been an exciting opportunity to engage customers from different parts of Singapore, nothing beats a permanent home."
Separately, Mr. Foo added, "The opening of the Smart showroom at the Mercedes-Benz Centre… widens our premium product offerings, putting them under 'one house', providing more options for consumers."
The new Smart showroom, located on Level 3 of the Mercedes-Benz Centre, is now open, and can be visited from 8:30am to 7:00pm daily from Monday to Saturday, and from 10:00am to 6:00pm on Sunday.
For the showroom's opening weekend (on 14 and 15 September 2024), Smart Singapore has prepared an array of exciting activities for visitors to look forward to. Specially for the opening period, the brand is also offering limited-time deals worth up to $10,000.
