Skoda produces one millionth battery system for Volkswagen
10 Dec 2024|52 views
Skoda has now hit the one-millionth production mark in terms of batteries produced for its parent company Volkswagen Group at its Mlada Boleslav plant.
High voltage traction batteries have been manufactured at the plant since 2019, when production was launched for the Superb iV with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. A second assembly line was added in 2023, increasing the total daily capacity to 1,500.
As of now, Skoda is focused exclusively on producing larger batteries (with a capacity range of 55kWh to 91kWh) for electric MEB-based vehicles, of which can be found in the Skoda Enyaq and the Skoda Elroq SUV, as well as in various Volkswagen, Seat/Cupra, and Audi.
Skoda also opened a state-of-the-art facility in June 2024 to optimize the quality control process of the final assembled batteries, using computed tomography technology to detect irregularities in individual parts without having to dismantle the entire battery system. The system can also be used to examine cells that have already been in operation.
