COE Results December 2024 2nd Bidding: Up across the board!

The second round of bidding for December saw Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums rising across all private car categories.

Buyers here might already be moving to secure their new car purchases ahead of the upcoming Lunar New Year, driving the rise in premiums this session. This could also explain the rise in total bids received for Cat A and B across the last few bidding sessions.

Cat A COE - Climbing up $4,111

Premiums for Cat A, for cars up to 1,600cc in engine capacity and with an output of no more than 130bhp or electric vehicles with a power output of up to 110kW, continued to climb this session. Premiums for the category rose by $2,000 (2.1%) to finally settle at $96,000.

The current premium now stands at just 6.6% above the 12-month trailing average. The total number of number of bids submitted exceeded the number of successful bids this round by 46%, lower than the 12-month average of 57% for the category.

Cat B COE - Rising by $5,990

Premiums for Cat B, for larger cars with more than 130bhp or engine displacements larger than 1,600cc or electric vehicles with a power output of more than 110kW, climbed this session, bringing an end to four consecutive sessions that saw premiums for the category slipping. This session saw premiums for the category climb by $5,990 (5.8%) to finally reach $109,000.

This climb means the current premium for the category is now 5.0% above the 12-month trailing average. The total number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the quota available by 46%. This is lower than the 12-month average figure for the category of 53%

Cat C COE - Taking a small hit this session

Premiums for Cat C, for goods vehicles and buses, clipped this session by $399 (0.6%) to close at $69,890. The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 57%, lower than the 12-month average for this category of 65%.

Cat E COE - Also climbing along

Premiums for Cat E, the open category, climbed this session by a total of $4,991 (4.8%) to reach $108,992.

The current premium for the category is now 3.9% above the 12-month trailing average. The total number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the quota available by 81%, on par with the 12-month average figure for the category of 81%.

Prevailing Quota Premium

The Prevailing Quota Premium is the amount to be paid for COE renewal and is computed from the moving average of the previous three-months of COE prices. Those looking to renew the COE on their cars will thus have to pay the following prices for the respective months.
