First unveiled as a concept car in 2022, Alpine has revealed a new hydrogen concept, the Alpenglow HY6, at the Paris Motor Show.
The car comes with the brand's first six-cylinder hydrogen engine and is the latest version of its hydrogen-powered rolling-prototype. A four-cylinder configuration with Alpine Ambassador Zinedine Zidane on board was showcased at the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Following on from the first prototype, which was powered by a 340bhp, turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, the Alpenglow HY6 comes with an all-new engine: A twin-turbocharged, 3.5-litre V6 that delivers a total output of 740bhp, more than double of the original prototype's engine.
Its new engine hydrogen engine technology also offers a new way of minimising the carbon footprint of sports cars, in line with Renault Group's carbon neutrality objectives in Europe by 2040, and worldwide by 2050.
Since its introduction two years ago, the concept car has refined its design to combine aerodynamic efficiency with a stronger edge to its Specular Blue all-carbon bodywork. Its V6 engine is also installed within a transparent glass case tinted with a smidge of blue.
The concept also gets a rear window that resembles that of the A110, with new air intakes and a series of three louvres ensuring ventilation and the safety of the hydrogen engine.
Its rear wing is made of a transparent material while its side blades give it an aggressive, raised, racing-style look, while also allowing it to be seen from the front of the car. The Inconel exhaust system in its rear lights emits water vapour when running, giving the spoiler a frosted effect.
Alpine has also retained its distinctive triangle at the front of the car's cockpit, which changes colour to indicate the level of lateral Gs in real time and information about passing speeds.
Finally, its wheels retain both its structure and gradient, in accordance with its bespoke Michelin tyres' graphics that match its wheels' design.
