Updated Porsche Taycan sets record lap time at Nordschleife

Porsche's updated Taycan look set to raise the bar for performance electric saloons even higher.
A pre-series example of the new car has already set a lap time of seven minutes and 7.55 seconds on the Nordschleife with Porsche development Driver Lars Kern behind the wheel - an astounding achievement, given that this time is 26 seconds faster than his own record set in the outgoing Taycan Turbo S equipped with the performance package in August 2022, and the fastest lap time yet from an all-electric Porsche (read more about the Porsche Taycan Turbo S Formula E safety car here).
Porsche is scant on details of this performance variant of the new car, although you will note that the example shown in the photos is sporting a rather sizeable front splitter as well as a wing at the back. Porsche does state that the car has received an additional roll cage, alongside racing bucket seats, for added safety when performing the record-setting lap.
Porsche will publish an onboard video of the complete lap come March 2024. The updated Porsche Taycan is scheduled to arrive in Singapore by the second-half of 2024.
