Porsche has announced that it will be donating more than $1,321,290 (that is, a total of €911,000) to support seriously ill children as part of its 'Racing for Charity' initiative.
The donation comes after the three Porsche 963s fielded by the Porsche Penske Motorsport works team turned a total of 833 laps at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Porsche donated a total of €750 for each lap (which would have counted up to a total of €624,750) but has subsequently topped up the donated amount to a neat €911,000.
The entire donation sum will go to three charitable initiatives: The registered associations Kinderherzen retten (Save Children’s Hearts) and Interplast Germany will each receive €350,000 from the funds raised, while the Ferry Porsche Foundation will be given €211,000, to be used for further initiatives to support sick children and their families.
The donations from the 'Racing for Charity' initiatives in 2023 made it possible for the Kinderherzen retten association to bring successful and life-saving heart surgery to 12 young people from El Salvador, Syria, Albania and Afghanistan at the University of Freiburg Medical Hospital. Interplast Germany, meanwhile, used the donations it received in 2023 to support medical missions which provided critical aid in countries including Tanzania and Mozambique.
