Ford Performance has unveiled the F-150 Lightning Switchgear, a high performance on and off-road demonstrator built in collaboration with RTR Vehicles, a firm that builds performance vehicle packages for Ford's products.
The Ford F-150 Lightning Switchgear sports a customer carbon body alongside a 2024 Ford Performance livery.
Aiding its off-road performance are 37-inch tyres which are held by a custom independent double-wishbone suspension at the front, and a multi-link independent suspension at the rear. These, in turn, make use of Fox shock absorbers, which, together with the truck's unique front and rear bumpers, improve its approach and departure angles.
The truck also gets fabricated steel rock rails and a new front skid plate to secure it for rough off-road terrain. Limit straps have also been added to help manage suspension and wheel travel. While at the rear, the truck also gets a unique chase rack, allowing it to carry two spare wheels and tyres.
The Ford F-150 Lightning Switchgear is joining vehicles including the SuperVan 4.0 and SuperVan 4.2 as well as the Mustang Mach-E 1400 in the Ford Performance Demonstrator programme to showcase the possibilities available with electric vehicles and to serve as a playground for engineers to advance their learnings for future electric vehicles.
